As the new year kicked off and my schedule opened up a bit, I wasn’t quite sure what to do with the time. I started working on projects that I have been putting off. Then it hit me: this was the perfect chance to refresh my business for the year ahead.
If you’d like to use this season to tune up your business too, here are some simple ways to get started:
- Look at your business from the outside.
Call your own voicemail – is it clear and friendly? Check your email signature – does it include your phone number and key links? Reread your website homepage and subscribe to your own newsletter to see exactly what new contacts experience. - Refresh your LinkedIn presence.
Update your headshot and headline, make sure your info reflects what you do now, and ask a few clients or colleagues for fresh recommendations. - Reshare and repurpose older content.
If you have past newsletters that never made it onto your website, upload them now. Consider turning older pieces into short posts, tips, or graphics for the new year. - Clear out everyday annoyances.
Tackle the little things you’ve been putting up with hard‑to-find client phone numbers, supplies stored too far away, or that pile of papers you’ve been ignoring. - Get your finances up to date.
Organize your expenses now instead of waiting for tax time. A clear picture of your numbers helps you set realistic goals for the new year.
For those of us who are used to running at full speed, a slower moment at the start of the year can feel strange. Take time to rest, and when you’re ready, use this window to reset, refresh, and set your business up for a stronger year. If you don’t feel you have time to do this yourself then think about hiring a VA to help you with the refresh of your business.
